A drilling and tapping machine is a specialized machining equipment that integrates drilling and tapping functions. It is widely used in batch hole processing and thread forming operations for metal parts.

1. Workpiece Preparation and Clamping: Check the flatness of the workpiece surface to be machined and the cleanliness of the positioning reference surface; select appropriate fixtures (such as V-blocks, pressure plates, and special positioning pins) according to the drawing requirements, and firmly fix the workpiece on the worktable, ensuring that the center of the hole to be machined coincides with the spindle axis. If necessary, use an edge finder or dial indicator for calibration.

2. Tool Installation and Parameter Setting: Install the drill bit and tap (or compound drilling and tapping tool) in sequence, confirming that the tool specifications match the machining dimensions; according to the material hardness, hole diameter, and thread specifications, set the drilling speed, feed rate, drilling depth, tapping speed, tapping depth, and reverse retraction speed in the control system.

3. Trial Run and Tool Setting: Start the equipment under no-load to verify the smooth operation of each moving part and the response sensitivity of the limit switches; use a tool setting device or trial cutting method to determine the initial position of the tool tip, and input the Z-axis zero-point offset value;

4. Automatic Cyclic Machining: Start the automatic program, and the equipment sequentially performs actions such as drilling → pause → switching/reversing → tapping → reversing and exiting → resetting; the operator must observe the cutting status throughout the process, paying attention to the chip shape, coolant flow direction, and any abnormal vibrations or noises;

5. Machining Completion Processing: After completing a single piece, shut down the spindle, unload the workpiece, and clean up the chips; check whether the thread pitch diameter, bottom hole diameter, and surface quality of the first piece meet the tolerance requirements; regularly clean the guide rails, lubricate the lead screw, check the tool wear, and replace dulled drill bits or chipped taps in a timely manner.
